Integrated cell biological, biochemical and modelling approach to tension-sensing in mitosis and meiosis

A position is available in Adele Marston’s lab at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, University of Edinburgh. The Marston lab investigates fundamental mechanisms of chromosome segregation in mitosis and meiosis. The successful candidate will work on an inter-disciplinary project combining protein biochemistry, cell biology, and mathematical modelling to investigate how interplay between phosphatases and kinases at the kinetochore and pericentromeric chromatin safeguards chromosome segregation.

Applicants must have, or will shortly obtain, a PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics and/or molecular biology. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and enthusiastic with an outstanding academic track record, good communication skills and the ability to work as a team. Applicants should have proven experience in protein biochemistry, advanced microscopy and/or mathematical modelling.
